After a strange weekend in MLS where results didn’t quite go the way people expected we can learn that MLS can throw in a few curve balls sometimes (Yes! An American pun).
This weekend is jammed back with fixtures leaving some value to be had in a mixture of games.
We always expect goals in MLS but this year has proven that you cannot rely on this alone. So with home teams totally dominating proceedings at the moment this is where most of the value is found. The shift will happen at some point when sides learn how to play away and probably more towards the latter part of the season when teams are desperate for points.
Remember folks, we are not even half way through the season yet. Teams are throwing up strange results and like last season I believe a better pattern will appear in the weeks to come. No more internationals please!
New York City FC v Seattle Sounders
It is no secret that New York City are one of the best teams in MLS, those that have watched their games will of seen how effective they can be. The home form is solid and the character shown last home match coming back late on from 0-1 down to win 2-1 proves to me there is a belief (mainly based around the attacking parts) in the Patrick Viera team. They score goals, they let in goals but this allows for open fun matches.
Early kick off here in USA and this always throws a caution towards goals as sometimes they provide the slow starts and boring matches.
However the bookies are still seeing Seattle Sounders as the champions and price them like that. I can only see one winner here.
Seattle might turn a corner at some point with the players they have but I cant see this happening at the Yankee Stadium.
Orlando City v Montreal Impact
I can’t talk anymore about last weekends game between Sporting and Impact. I can feel the rage building as I type. YOU USELESS PRICK, that backpass, off the bar etc.
Early in the week I tipped Orlando to win this one as I believe in the team they have and at home they are a fun, attacking team to watch. However it looks like Cyle Larin likes a few drinks and is not so keen on walking it off. Turns out American cops do check people for drink driving there.
He looks like he is out for this match which is a HUGE loss. I am hoping more than expecting an Orlando win here. This game should still favour Orlando but the edge has been taken off for me.
New England Revolution v Chicago Fire
The Revs are another strong home team and Chicago are in the top 6 teams in MLS this year.
It has a 2-1 written all over it I am just not sure which way that will swing to be honest.
Both have (time of writing) strong lineups. For those on the Nikolic top scorer bet will be hoping for a goal or two more here.
It promises to be an entertaining game so lets hope it lives up to the bill.
Toronto FC v DC United
Simple one this; Toronto are the best team in MLS and DC United are the worst.
Toronto are very strong at home(and away) and with the trio of Gio, Alti and Bradley fit they are looking really tasty for this one. An asian handicap on this one seems the way to go, they have to win this one so it should be a money back game at least.
LA Galaxy v Houston Dynamo
Galaxy are without Van Damme and Dos Santos who are two huge players for them. Without Van Damme this game could spill it into the very heavy over category. Houston are without doubt a talented side but their away form is horrendous. They will turn it around at some point and when they get their tactics right they should prove harder to beat away.
For me even without these two players missing for Galaxy I believe they have enough to win this one. I’m a huge fan of momentum and Galaxy have that at the moment. Alessendrini is a real handful and one of the leagues better players so I hope he can push this Galaxy team forward here.
BTTS should be a given and over is also worth a look at here. Braver ones will back Galaxy here.
